Introduction
I was born and raised in Canada, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Carleton University. Later, I pursued a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Philosophy at Simon Fraser University, further developing my background in analytical thinking, argumentation, and writing. Over the course of my career, I have worked with students from elementary school to graduate level across both private academies and online learning environments.
I have taught English in Canada and South Korea, working with students from a wide variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In addition to language instruction, I have helped many students prepare university applications, admission essays, interviews, and standardized assessments. I have also worked as a curriculum developer and educational content writer, creating instructional materials and assessment content for academic preparation programs.
Alongside classroom teaching, I have spent more than a decade working as a private online tutor, helping students strengthen their fluency, writing ability, and academic confidence through individualized instruction. Many of my students have continued lessons with me over multiple years as they progressed from high school into undergraduate and even graduate studies. I have worked with a wide range of learners, including advanced academic students and students attending highly competitive universities, including members of the Ivy League.
I would also like to share a little about my teaching philosophy:
I believe effective teaching depends on clarity, structure, and communication. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because concepts are often explained in ways that feel abstract or disconnected from their goals. My approach is to break complex ideas into manageable parts while still encouraging students to think critically and independently.
I place strong emphasis on active participation during lessons. Rather than relying only on passive instruction, I encourage students to ask questions, explain ideas in their own words, and develop confidence through discussion and guided practice. I also adapt lessons carefully to each student’s learning style, goals, and proficiency level.
I believe long-term growth is one of the most important indicators of successful teaching. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to support students across multiple stages of their academic development — from secondary school writing fundamentals to advanced undergraduate essays, graduate-level research writing, and professional communication.
Whether a student is preparing for academic study, improving conversational fluency, writing essays, or preparing applications and interviews, my goal is not only to improve performance, but also to help students become more confident and effective communicators.
