Hello! I’m Markis Gardner, a certified Mathematics and Computer Science teacher in both Georgia and Tennessee with approximately 19 years of classroom teaching experience and more than 35 years of tutoring experience. I hold a Master of Arts in Mathematics and a Master of Education in Educational Technology, and I am also a certified education consultant.

I work with students ranging from K–12 through the university level, including students who need help catching up, students seeking higher grades, advanced students who need a greater challenge, and students preparing for competitive or high-stakes examinations.

I am the author of the AP Calculus BC Master Workbook, a comprehensive AP Calculus practice resource containing hundreds of topic-specific problems as well as full-length AP Calculus BC practice examinations. Writing mathematics materials has helped me develop a large collection of problems at different difficulty levels, allowing me to adjust instruction to each student's individual ability.

My teaching philosophy is simple: students learn mathematics best by doing mathematics. Rather than spending an entire lesson lecturing about formulas and procedures, I use carefully selected problems to identify what a student understands, teach new concepts as they are needed, and then gradually increase the level of difficulty. I emphasize understanding why a method works, not simply memorizing steps.

I have taught AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Computer Science Principles, IB Mathematics, Precalculus, Algebra, Geometry, SAT/ACT preparation, competition mathematics, and university-level mathematics. During my career, I have also worked with more than 1,000 SAT students.

Whether a student is struggling with Algebra, preparing for an AP examination, working toward a high SAT or ACT score, tackling AMC competition problems, or studying university mathematics, my objective is to help that student become a confident, independent problem solver.

I use AI to help me generate CUSTOM homework questions at the level they are performing at.

My Goal for Every Student

Not every student comes to tutoring with the same objective. Some simply want to pass a difficult course. Others want an A. Some are preparing for college entrance examinations, AP exams, or mathematics competitions.

Whatever the goal, I meet the student at his or her current level and work forward from there. I want students to leave tutoring knowing not only how to solve the problem in front of them, but how to approach the next problem when I am no longer there to help.
