Introduction
I specialise in English Language, English Literature, History, Geography, Design Technology and creative academic support, working with learners from KS3 through to GCSE, A-Level and adult education.
My teaching is structured, engaging and highly personalised. I combine clear explanation, high-quality resources, live modelling, targeted questioning and exam-focused practice to help students improve subject knowledge, written accuracy, confidence and independent thinking.
As an experienced teacher and examiner, I understand how assessment objectives, mark schemes and grade boundaries work. I use this knowledge to help learners produce stronger, more focused answers and understand exactly what examiners are looking for.
I have extensive experience supporting a wide range of learners, including high-achieving students aiming for top grades, students who need targeted help to improve progress, and learners who may lack confidence or feel anxious about their studies.
My approach is calm, professional and purposeful. I believe students make the strongest progress when expectations are high, lessons are carefully tailored, and feedback is clear, supportive and practical.
Alongside mainstream teaching, I have worked extensively in one-to-one tuition, helping students deepen understanding, improve exam technique and achieve meaningful academic progress.
I also support adult learners who wish to improve their English communication, writing skills or overall confidence in a calm and professional environment.
Outside of teaching, I have a strong interest in history, design, technology and creative projects. I often bring these interests into lessons to make learning feel relevant, engaging and memorable.
My goal is to help every learner grow in confidence, improve academically and achieve their full potential.

Carl has been supporting our son with his Product Design A Level. I can’t recommend him highly enough. His teaching style is wonderful. Calm, reassuring and very knowledgeable. Our son has ADHD and hasn’t found education easy; however, he really looked forward to his lessons with Carl and was eager to book his next lesson each time, as he found Carl so helpful.
I have an ADHD son who is fast approaching his GCSEs. He has always struggled to put pen to paper and shuts down at the sight of an exam paper that requires a long answer. I came across Carl and on speaking to him I quickly realised that he was a great match for my child and felt like he really understood the challenges he faces. We are now five lessons in, and I’m not sure how Carl has done it but within three lessons my son had written a full story! Carl has removed the overwhelm and made it feel achievable, in turn giving my son the confidence he needs to believe in himself. I am so grateful to Carl and feel confident that my son, who was heading for a grade 2, now has the tools to gain a grade 4/5 in English. Highly recommend!

Carl is a first-class tutor and offers tutoring in subjects that are hard to find support with. My son is studying BTEC Construction at GCSE and it is near impossible to find help in this subject. Henry finds Carl’s lessons stimulating and enjoys learning with him. We are pleased with the improvement he is making.
