Introduction Video Guidelines for TLG Tutors

Creating a compelling introduction video is key to attracting students to your profile.
Follow these steps to make your video stand out!

1. Introduce Yourself (15–20 seconds)

Start your video with a warm introduction:

  • What’s your first name?
  • Where are you from, and where are you currently based?
  • What subject(s) do you teach?
  • What languages do you speak?

2. Highlight Your Skills & Teaching Approach (30–50 seconds)

Help students understand why you’re the right tutor for them:

  • What are your qualifications, teaching experience, or relevant skills?
  • What can students expect from your lessons?
  • Do you have a preferred teaching method?
  • What types of activities and materials do you use?
  • Do you specialize in any specific areas (e.g., academic writing, test preparation, beginner-friendly lessons)?

3. Wrap It Up (15–25 seconds)

Encourage students to book a lesson with you!

  • Thank them for watching.
  • Share a motivational message or final thoughts on how you can help them succeed.

💡 Tip: Keep your video clear, engaging, and professional—a friendly smile and confident tone can make a great first impression!

Video Recording Tips

Follow these guidelines to ensure your introduction video is high-quality and professional:

Record in horizontal mode and keep the camera at eye level.
✔ Keep your video between 30 seconds to 2 minutes long.
✔ Choose a well-lit space with a neutral background.
✔ Record in a quiet environment with no background noise.
✔ Keep the camera steady—avoid shaky footage.
✔ Make sure your face is fully visible throughout the video.
Highlight your teaching skills and experience to make a strong impression.

What to Avoid in Your Video

To keep your introduction video professional and in line with our guidelines, please avoid the following:

🚫 Do not share any contact details.
🚫 Do not use frames, borders, or filters on your video.
🚫 Do not include other people in your video. This should be a solo introduction.
🚫 Do not use slideshows, presentations, or demo lessons—keep it personal and engaging.
🚫 Do not add logos or links to your video.

How to Upload Your Introduction Video

Once you’ve recorded your video using your webcam or any other camera, follow these steps to upload it:

1. Upload to YouTube
2. Copy the link to your video
3. Paste the link in your tutor profile under "Introduction Video URL (YTB)"

Video Visibility Recommendations

YouTube: Set your video to “Unlisted” so only those with the link (including our team and your potential students) can view it.

Tutor Protocol After Receiving a Booking

Once you receive a booking confirmation for a trial class on Treasure Learning, follow these steps to ensure a smooth and professional experience for both you and the student:

  1. Check Your Email: Upon receiving a booking, you’ll get an email with two key links:
    • A link to view the booking details (student name, subject, date, and time).
    • A link to join the virtual class at the scheduled time. Ensure you save these links and test the class link in advance.
  2. Initial Outreach to the Student:
    • Send a friendly message to the student within 24 hours of receiving the booking. Introduce yourself, express excitement about the upcoming trial class, and ask a few icebreaker questions to build rapport (e.g., their interests, goals for the class, or preferred learning style).
    • Example message:
Hi [Student Name], I’m [Your Name], and I’m thrilled to be your tutor for the upcoming trial class! I’d love to learn a bit about you—what are your goals for this subject, and how do you prefer to learn? Looking forward to meeting you!
  3. Assess the Student’s Needs:
    • Ask questions to understand their academic level, learning preferences, and specific goals (e.g., exam prep, skill improvement, or general understanding).
    • Use this information to tailor the trial class to their needs and learning style.
  4. Prepare for the 30-Minute Trial Class:
    • Materials: Create or gather relevant materials, such as:
      • A short PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation to share key concepts or an engaging introduction to the subject.
      • A set of diagnostic questions to assess the student’s current level (e.g., 3–5 questions for quick review during the session).
      • Interactive resources like quizzes, worksheets, or online tools (e.g., Kahoot or Quizlet) to make the session engaging.
    • Keep materials concise and focused, as the trial is only 30 minutes.
    • Plan a clear structure: 5 minutes for introductions, 20 minutes for teaching/assessment, and 5 minutes for wrap-up and next steps.
  5. Backup Plan for Technical Issues:
    • Test the Treasure Learning video call system in advance. If you encounter issues, have a backup platform ready (e.g., Zoom or Google Meet). Ensure you’re comfortable using the backup and have the link ready to share with the student.
    • If you switch to a backup platform, log in to the Treasure Learning system afterward and report the issue, noting the steps you took to ensure the class proceeded smoothly.
  6. Join the Class on Time:
    • Log in to the class link 5–10 minutes early to ensure everything is working and to make a professional first impression.
    • Dress appropriately and ensure your background is tidy and distraction-free.
  7. Engage and Encourage During the Class:
    • Be enthusiastic, patient, and encouraging to create a positive learning environment.
    • Use the prepared materials to guide the session and adapt based on the student’s responses.
    • At the end of the class, provide brief feedback on their performance and suggest how future classes could help them achieve their goals.
  8. Follow-Up and Encourage Further Bookings:
    • After the trial, send a follow-up message thanking the student for attending and summarizing what was covered.
    • Encourage them to book additional classes to continue their learning journey. If you have a personal discount code, share it to incentivize further bookings (e.g., “Use my code [YourCode] for a discount on your next class!”).
    • Example follow-up:
Hi [Student Name], thanks for a great trial class today! I loved working with you on [topic]. I think we can make awesome progress together—feel free to book more sessions, and you can use my code [YourCode] for a discount. Let me know if you have any questions!

By following these steps, you’ll create a welcoming and professional experience that encourages students to continue their learning journey with you on Treasure Learning.
